Britain's THIRD coronavirus patient dies as man in his 60s passes away in Manchester after cases shoot to 278 in just 24 hours - with experts warning UK fatalities could reach 100,000

  • Man, aged over 60, was treated at North Manchester General Hospital and had 'underlying health conditions'
  • He had returned from a holiday in Italy before being diagnosed and sent to the hospital's specialist unit
  • Northern Ireland reported five new coronavirus cases tonight bringing the total to 278 patients
  • Health chiefs came under fire tonight for failing to carry out checks on passengers arriving from Italy
  • Department of Health and Social Care this afternoon announced a further 64 cases of coronavirus in the UK
  • This is the highest daily rise in cases of the virus since the first was confirmed in January this year 
  • Oxford student is believed to have self-isolated as soon as they had symptoms and is being offered 'support'
  • Hazmat team has also been pictured going into halls at Edinburgh University last night
  • Italy has placed the region of Lombardy on lock down and recorded 400 deaths and more than 7,000 cases
  • The UK's Foreign Office has warned against 'all but essential' travel to regions in northern Italy
