{UAH} Mulindwa@ DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ARE PLAYING POLITICS DURING CORONA
Right now, the Republican Senate and the Democratic House are passing legislation that manages to somehow deftly avoid actually doing anything for the truly poor in this country. And then keep pointing their fingers at each other. They are BOTH using this situation as a chance to say "SEE? The other party is bad!"
Here is the problem.
The Democratic House proposed legislation for paid sick leave extensions. Yet managed at the last minute to provide a very serious exemption. COMPANIES WITH OVER 500 EMPLOYEES WERE EXEMPT! So, they passed paid sick leave for people working for smaller businesses ONLY. And said "Look guys! We are helping!"
Meanwhile, in the Republican Senate...
The Republicans passed a bill to give a bunch of money to companies, and then put in big letters and numbers so that it would look more impressive "$1200 CHECKS!" but in the fine print you see that people with "No tax liability" meaning the poorest people will get $600. That is barely more then one paycheck for most people in this income bracket. And for Seniors on Social Security, it's also not helpful enough to actually do anything.
MEANWHILE IN BOTH THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE, PROPOSALS FOR BIG MONEY FOR WALL STREET, AND BAILOUTS FOR BIG INDUSTRY IS MONEY JUST THROWN AT THEM WITH NO SPECIAL CONDITIONS.
ALSO MEANWHILE, Bernie Sanders proposes $2000 a month for EVERYONE until the crisis is over, raises 2 million for charities providing relief using his campaign's donor email list, and even Republican Mitt Romney proposes $1000 for EVERYONE.
THEY ARE BOTH BEING IGNORED.
