SOME SMALL LESSON FROM THE COLD LAND ON LUO KID'S NAMES! – UAH 18 – 03 – 2020 By Ocaya pOcure
Haaaa. Omera Jadwong KIPENJI,
I think, you should get to know that, our past LUO generations had played quite some greater roles none of us their current several generations after can never try to do better than them. In fact, the truth must be told, that I cannot put my feet inside their shoes because their traditional schools though under the shadows of big trees within their vicinities, which we their current generations have even lost to know how the seeds of those trees look likes today. To the say the truth we are clearly pathetic because, we know nothing as far as LUO tradition is concern.
SORRY, Jadwong Omera Kipenji, it had really taken me some good times in this parts of the cold world of my life. Why? Bcos, I recalled when we were told to go to study in schools and religiously by even forgetting our traditional values meanwhile leaving our villages to some pale skinned folks who changed our ways of being whom we were till tomorrow. My children and grandchildren shall I am sad to tell you that they do not know LUO - Acoli language leave alone traditions which, yourself who is older than them do not want to know and, or practice. But, please, Omera Jadwong KIPENJI, bear in your minds that, OCAYA pOcure is still clearly LUO – Acoli man, though with the dry cold MAKENDE in this dry cold foreign in the Scandinavian countries!
SOME SMALL LESSON FROM THE COLD LAND!
Methinks, clearly, some Lessons on names giving in LUO tradition are given for memory of several events which took places long times ago in Acoliland. SORRY Omera KIPENJI, take herewith some Lessons about these few examples, in Acoli – LUO traditions on some of these names such as Obonyo - male, and Abonyo - female, meaning the births came during and, or after the LOCUST'S invasion of LUO - Acoliland. Another example about Okec - male, and Akec – female, meaning the births came during and, or after FAMINE in LUO - Acoliland. These means LUO have names with connotations and connected meanings. Let me even not forget your own name Owor – male, and Awor – female, meaning such births came in the night times.
Regarding my name Ocaya – male and, Acayo – female. This name is quite interesting and challenging because they are always mostly done by AUNTIES from both side of the marriage in LUO – Acoli tradition. For examples the sisters of MUMMY after my birth were stating that my mother was quite prettier and not fit for my father. On the other side, sisters to my FATHER were on the other hand are even saying that my MUM was not fit for my FATHER because was ugly. In short, the names Ocaya, Acayo, Acaye are given in connotations of competitiveness AUNTIES!
It would be even that the Covid-19 shall be remembered by the similar connotation clank names connected with the Chinese City or towns where this epidemic tragedy! Well, my worry is, I may be naïve but please Omera Jadwong Kipenji, be sure my Makende may dry with the cold in this foreign country please!
Mzee Ocaya pOcure
