{UAH} Why did President Trump on Fox reiterate that he believes New York has enough ventilators? What basis does he have for such statements?

Your question reminds me of an incident that C.S. Lewis related in his autobiography.

In his teens, Lewis was sent to live with, and be tutored by, a man named Kirkpatrick, who had a reputation for successfully prepping young men for admission to top colleges.

Meeting Kirkpatrick on the train platform, Lewis, rather nervous and wanting to make social conversation, remarked that the scenery in Surrey was not as wild as he had been led to believe.

"Stop!" Kirkpatrick suddenly shouted. "On what do you base such an observation?"

Lewis writes that it had never occurred to him that he needed to "base" his remarks on anything at all. "Nothing, sir," he murmured.

"Then do you not see," Kirkpatrick went on, "that you had no grounds to expect any such thing?"

For better or worse, Trump has probably never been exposed to anybody like Kirkpatrick. The closest he came was probably Generals James Mattis and John Kelly, who weren't really a fit for White House in Wonderland.

Trump has based his own career, on the three Bs, and unfortunately, I don't mean Better Business Bureau. His three Bs are bluff, bully, and bluster. He had a feeling that the need for ventilators was not as high as claimed, just as he had had a hunch, some weeks earlier, that the COVID death rate was much lower than reported.

For Trump, that is all that is needed, and his supporters evidently agree.
