{UAH} BESIGYE: ALL OF US WILL BE INFECTED WITH COVID19 IN THE END

Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has criticised President Yoweri Museveni for lacking a clear plan on how to get the country out of the current Covid19 crisis, saying all Ugandans will be infected by the deadly disease in the end.

According to Dr Besigye, Museveni's measures are simply meant to delay the transmission of Covid19 but the disease will spread since there are many gaps in the implementation of the directives as is the case with cargo transporters. On Friday, another truck driver tested positive for Covid19, bringing the total infection toll to 75.

On Saturday, Besigye gave an interview to Baba TV at his home in Wakiso District's Kasangati. In the interview, Besigye, a medical doctor, explained that while Uganda's Covid19 infection toll remained low compared to other countries, the numbers simply reflected results from returnees, contacts and truck drivers. He added that there could be people in the communities who have been infected, fought off the disease but passed it on to others.

A personal physician to Museveni during the bush war, Besigye argued that Museveni was simply keeping people locked up as a delay tactic since the president and many others like him were only waiting for other nations that have heavily invested in research to come up with a vaccine or drugs.

Besigye advised Ugandans to try and improve their bodies' abilities to fight Covid19 even during the tough situation the country is going through, especially since a lockdown was declared and extended for three more weeks.

"In the end, all of us will be infected. What we need to do is to boost our immunities," said Besigye. He then advised Ugandans on things they should do to improve their chances of overcoming the deadly respiratory disease. Besides emphasis on good nutrition which he blamed Museveni for failing to prioritise, his tips included sleeping for at least eight hours, avoiding stress even under the circumstances (here, he invited Ugandans to seek counselling services from People's Government Relief and Emergency Team), and engaging in physical exercises.

On banning politicians from distributing food and other items, Besigye said Museveni was simply politicking. For example, he wondered why Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake Butebi had been arrested for distributing food yet NRM MPs were busy doing the same, even donning the party's yellow clothes.

He also touched on the issue of the controversial Shs10bn Covid19 package for MPs, which he said just a small fraction of the billions that have been allocated as classified expenditure and could never be accounted for, including more money for State House.
