You are right about big donors using their funds to blackmail international organizations and less developed members who are reduced to spectators. 

I think this USA action should be a wake up call on the danger of dependence on huge funders. It also opens doors to countries like China and Russia to step forward to demystify USA's economic superiority. 

The UN Security Council issue is tricky as those permanent members know the advantages they get from having those exclusive powers to decide, but that would be the right approach to level the ground.

Methinks it is a very big mistake to have an International Organization allow one of its' members to contribute

a Lion's share to its' operational budgets because that exposes that Organization to blackmail.

The US always resorts to blackmail to achieve this end.

May be the UN should first abolish the so called Permanent members of the Security Council who have veto

powers so that what the majority member states vote on gets watered down by a Single vote.

Then they work out a way of how the UN Agencies get funding without placing it in a blackmailers' box.

But, there are saner leaders around  the world who will fill the void. 

US always treats the UN as an unappreciative beggar. When US wants to invade a country, it rushes to the UN for some face-saving support. US will buy and bully its way into securing that authorization.

But when the UN makes a stand on some international positions, like the mistreatment of the Palestinians by Israel, or the when it raised alarm at the high rate of police brutality against minorities in US, the US will go bonkers to warn the UN to stay clear of US affairs.

The WHO does not police an member states on how they manage their health system. If China fed WHO incorrect information, the WHO could not call out China, because WHO has no mechanism to do so.

If Trump wanted WHO to interfere with China's management of its own healthy issues, he should also subject US health institutions to the oversight of the WHO. 

In issuing this punitive action against WHO, the president is passing the buck, as usual, and refusing to appreciate how his own initial inaction, or lukewarm response to the outbreak, handicapped his own government's official response.

President Trump on Tuesday announced that the US would suspend payments to the World Health Organization, saying the group had failed to report accurate information from China during the early stages of the pandemic.

"I am instructing my administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization possible in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus," the president said from the Rose Garden during the daily coronavirus pandemic briefing.

"Everybody knows what is going on there. American taxpayers provide between $400 million and $500 million per year to the WHO. China contributes roughly $40 million," the president continued.

He slammed the group for its initial opposition to travel bans, and said his own restrictions on travel from China announced on Jan. 31 saved "thousands and thousands" of American lives.

"The United States has a duty to insist upon full accountability, one of the most dangerous and costly decisions from the WHO was its disastrous decision to oppose travel restrictions from China and other nations," he continued.
