Former President Kenneth Kaunda turns 96 today, and to mark his birthday, reporter JACK ZIMBA talked to his firstborn child, Colonel Panji Kaunda, to share memories about his dad.
DID you know that long before he became actively involved in the pre-independence politics, former President Kenneth Kaunda was a passionate vegetable farmer? Of course that was beside him being a teacher.
According to his firstborn child, Colonel Panji Kaunda, Zambia's first republican President had a large field in his birthplace, Chinsali, and would usually sell his vegetables to the missionaries at Lubwa Mission.
"What I remember is that he was a farmer, growing vegetables for us. That was his passion, and I remember helping him to water the vegetables. I think I was six or seven years old at the time," says Panji.
