{UAH} NEXT: SHUT UP! CORONA MOUTH LOCKDOWN?
Photo: A few days ago I was riding a boda-boda motorcycle near the slums of the Ugandan capital, Kampala to see how the most disadvantaged were coping with the shutdown I remember the question they were asking as I stopped to take some selfies showing people walking home to beat the 7pm curfew deadline.
"Why is there a lockdown if Museveni and Speaker Kadaga have the cure for the corona virus?"
That question remains unanswered to this day.
Another question is arising today regarding yesterday's food distribution exercise.
"Is that it?"
Many expected to see more distributions continuing to happen at least over a few days in all disadvantaged areas in the city.
I suggest that feedback data now be made public about yesterday's exercise (how much assistance was given, what items, how many households benefitted, what was the procurement procedure, which areas were covered, nutritional value, budget of the exercise etc...). That is simply part of remaining accountable to the people.
Meanwhile, the Corvid-19 guidelines are going to have to be updated in light of the new research findings.
Basically what they found is that on top of coughing and sneezing, even talking can spread the disease.
This comes after another big policy u-turn. Some governments and institutions had been advising the public that wearing face masks was not necessary. Well some of these governments (including WHO) are now seeing the light after research contradicted their assertions and found that masks were actually critical in containing the Corvid-19 pandemic.
Of course these two scientific findings now have to be included in all public information material about how the virus spreads and how to protect oneself. And we have to be ready to adapt to any other new research findings that might come up in the future.
This so as to help save lives and help stop the spread of the deadly Corvid-19 pandemic.
Happy Palm Sunday!
