QUICK FACTS ABOUT PRINCE JOHN BARIGYE OF ANKOLE KINGDOM.
• On January 10, 1940 John Barigye was born to Charles Gasyonga and Constance Mary Gasyonga
• In 1970s Barigye served as Uganda's ambassador to West Germany and Vatican.
• He later worked with UN as head of United Nations Committee on Trade and Development in charge of Southern Africa
• On July 10 1983 King Godfrey Gasyonga died and Prince John Barigye was announced heir.
• In 1988 Barigye was elected to represent Kashari County in National Resistance Council
• On November 20, 1993 he was coronated as king of Ankole but his kingship was annulled by government.
• In 1994 he contested to become Mbarara district chairman and lost the bid to Mr Justin Sabiiti
• On April 20, 2010 he petitioned Constitutional Court claiming Ankole Kingdom's Estates
• In 2011 he filed a divorce suit at Nakawa magistrate court over matrimonial differences with wife Denise Kwezi
• In 2011 he got a kidney transplant in India.
• On October 14, 2011Barigye died of kidney complications at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi
• He left behind 9 children.
• Charles Aryaija Rwebishengye, 29 was named his heir.
• On Oct 23, 2011 Barigye was buried at Nkokonjeru in Mbarara
• Folklore has it that the Nkore kingdom was established around 1400 AD.
• In 1944 Omugabe Kahaya II died and was succeeded by Sir Charles Godfrey Gasyonga II-Not his son but a Muhinda sub countychief of Kashari
