{UAH} AVAILING RAPID TEST KITS TO HEALTH FACILITIES NATIONWIDE HELPS DETERMINE PANDEMIC"S TRUE PREVALENCE & SAVES LIVES.
The cost of test kits is the reason why Uganda cannot conduct mass testing of the population. Yet a mass testing exercise is reportedly the most critical part in being able to contain any pandemic.
Remember that these kits are much sought after currently. A rare product at this time because the rich countries like EU, the US , Canada, Australia and the developed Asian countries are all scrambling for any test kits on the market so as to fight the pandemic in their respective countries. Meaning that poor Africans have almost no chance of getting any kits at this point in time.
Meanwhile the government of Uganda has declared the sum of $60 per kit as "unrealistic".
Now I would like to make it public that after alot of research, international phone calls in the wee hours of the morning, and countless emails to friends, research companies and international suppliers, I finally found a sizeable stash of affordable rapid Corvid-19 test kits from South Korea.
I would like the brand and source to remain confidential at the moment for many serious reasons. But before I take a rest, I will hereby be formally writing to the Office of the President about this important availability. Important because it is actually a 10-minute rapid test kit that costs about three times less than the current expensive Uganda government test kits, and between 300,000 upto a million of these kits can be procured and shippped by air cargo to distribute to all health centers, clinics and hospitals around the country so as to immensely improve the country's Corvid-19 pandemic response capacity. Remember the basic rule is that the quicker we detect cases of infection within our communities, the less disease we have spreading quietly within the population, and the better our chances of coming out safely from this global crisis.
And we also have to make an effort ourselves rather than just sit there waiting for donors to give us test kits, meanwhile the disease is spreading and more people risk dying from the corona virus.
Let me make it clear that I am not doing this for any personal gain. This a critical crisis requiring solidarity. And I do not want to be portrayed as profiteering from the pandemic as several entrepreneurs have been found to be doing. In fact I will be requesting that government does all the appropriate trials and procurement procedures to confirm this products efficiency as well. That is how my father raised me.
However there is already enormous global trust out there in anti-corvid19 South Korean technology. They are the first developed country to "flatten the curve" so far by combining rigurous mass testing and effective social distancing public health policies.
God willing, once confirmed I would also like to see this 10-minute rapid test kit also made available to any other African country that needs it so as to save the lives of Africans around the continent.
