{UAH} BREAKING: UGANDA'S ELECTRIC BUSES START OPERATIONS IN KAMPALA

Kayoola EVS Electric Buses have started providing select services in and around Kampala, the Ugandan made electric buses have an operating range of 300 kilometres on a single charge and can carry up to 90 passengers.
The vehicles are a brainchild of Makerere University and are manufactured by Kiira Motors Corporation through the support by the Presidential Initiative for Science and Technology innovation.
The Kayoola EVS Bus has an operating cost per KM of UGX 320 as compared to a Diesel Bus Equivalent with Cost per KM of UGX 1,670 implying better energy efficiency. According to the company website, the battery life of the Kayoola EVS electric bus is up to 3,000 Charge cycles that covers 900,000km as compared to 200,000 km of a typical diesel engine.
The Kayoola EVS Bus has on-board Wi-Fi to ensure the travelers stay connected on the internet, USB charging ports to enable charging of traveler's mobile devices and display boards for entertainment and timely information dissemination.
Kiira Motors Corporation is manufacturing different vehicle models to meet the ranging choices of its clientelle.
The Kayoola EVS is a Fully Electric Low Floor Bus specifically designed for Urban Mass Transportation and can carry up to 90 passengers to an average distance of 300 Km on a single charge. The bus is fitted with state of the art assistive technology for people with special needs that include special seats and a ramp for easy boarding and off boarding of people in wheelchairs.
The Kiira EV, Africa's first electric vehicle was launched on 24th November 2011, it utilises a battery-inverter system that drives a motor for its operation. The battery back is the new type constituting powerful Lithium Ion cells that you see in modern smartphones and powerbanks.
The battery pack can achieve a distance of 80Km on a single charge.
