{UAH} Food for thought : M7 may no longer be in control.
It is not M7 abducting and holding young Ugandans in illegal detention but his son MUHOOZI KAINERUGABA who now has levers of power as Presidential Advisor "SPECIAL OPERATIONS" whose scope is unlimited with classified budgets to finance his political terror in the population. This effectively means anything including sanctioning assassinations, abductions, kidnapping of critics, holding abductees for as long as he wants, bribery of political opponents and deliberate economic sabotage.
Now you don't have to agree with me on this. The fact is Mr.Muhoozi right now controls and wields power through Mr.Muhoozi's agents placed strategically in State institutions to blindly apply his coercive policies hiding behind his father's aging back so that the blame is deflected to his father when in fact he is trying to ascend to power by violently paving a path of minimal resistance from young people exhausted by his father's long stay in power without much to show for it except blantant corruption, nepotism, cronysm and a patronage system run by friends and family.
There are MUHOOZI KAINERUGABA agents/surrogates carrying out illegal orders on behalf of their benefactor and feel a sense of privilege to hound, harass and torture fellow citizens because to them it is a job in an economy with limited options; jobs. Well, a job sounds like a privilege in those circumstances. But what about ones own dignity and that of their victims abused simply because it's ones only way of life? There is no dignity in living like an animal.
Torturing suspects while in detention including opposition Members of Parliament has now been normalised since the Arua fracas in August 2018. Many assassinations have been executed with successful precision and no investigation has ever produced any report explaining the motive and identity of the well armed assassins. This is despite a well funded docket of "Special Operations" whose job description is unknown to the public. All we see in public view is the SFC commiting human rights abuses in broad day while quelling riots and assassinations that are never explained.
Abduction of suspects by Security Services and illegal detention are now the norm and no one is held accountable. Why? The Special Presidential Advisor on Special Operations goes on and accounts to no one since, well his duties are "SPECIAL" but to who and for who?
I am not writing this because I hate or envy Mr.Museveni or Mr.Muhoozi. I was well schooled in civility. I am therefore exercising my civic duty to Uganda to let Ugandans understand our collective predicament and choose to either submit or resist. Our options are binary; submit or resist. You my friend today might assume a vantage position of privilege because of your current station but as long as our collective social good has been eroded, your comfort is temporary. Karma might miss you today but end up striking your child or relative.
Those who pretend to be NEUTRAL in our ideological contestations are by default confusing their submission for collusion.Unfortunately both submission and resistance come with consequences. But after 34 years of civility Ugandans have woken up in a pandemic , hungry and increasingly with a regime prepared to test their patience with might; Iron and Blood.
The end won't be as easy as many would wish. The sacrifices already made are many albeit submissively through gullible collusion of some power centers in the Church, Cultural institutions and sheer tribalism promoted by the political elite. And we will have to come to a breaking point for a critical mass to realize submission has failed and won't work any longer so the population can choose the next option of pushing back. Pushing back means fighting for common good rather than personal good.
There is going to be increased defections in opposition ranks as the fighting spirit of many aging actors wanes, more assassinations through poisoning, executions and imprisonment of political opponents. These are part of the struggle for common decency.
Common decency as equal citizens before the LAW in the land of our fore father's should be the rallying call. We are now slaves in this land and until the slaves rise up and fight for their citizenship and common decency, we all shall remain slaves to a hegemony that has no limits to it's thirst for power.
Mzee Kabulasoke.
