By how much has Uganda's GDP shrank or expanded by any miracle since January 1st, 2020(Q1/Q2)?

Singapore is reporting the country is officially in a technical recession as GDP plunges 12.6% in Q2. On May 17,2020 Japan, the 3rd largest economy reported it's economy had shrank by an annualized rate of 3.4% in the first three months of the year which made it the first largest economy to enter a recession due to the pandemic.

Serious people are tracking data quarterly and reporting the number of jobs lost or recovered, businesses closed/opened, industries impacted/recession proof and the overall state of their respective economies to guide investors on options.

Here in Kyanamukaka, there is muted silence with the exception of boring speeches about how to survive/optimize 6Kg of posho a month and which international donor has approved a loan/grant facility to Uganda.

We are accustomed to the archaic guess work culture of the Nyungiyamawes which the virus has effortlessly exposed as a fantastic sham. The pandemic has proved we need to start investing deliberately in data collection, collation, analysis and reporting across sectors to inform public policy decisions and let's be open and bold about our situation no matter how dire.
