After finishing second in the March primary, Glenn Rogers of Graford overcame Jon Francis of Cisco in the Tuesday Republican primary runoff for state representative for Texas House District 60, based on unofficial results.

There was no Democratic candidate in the running to replace current state Rep. Mike Lang, so Rogers is the presumptive winner of the seat.

Rogers earned 11,956 votes (52.4%) to 11,278 (47.6%) for Francis, for a lead of 678 votes.

"It is with great humility that I accept the charge given to me tonight by the people of House District 60," Rogers said in a statement. "This is a victory for our entire region and for every small town in our district, and it would have never happened without the support and dedication of those who believed in our cause and worked relentlessly to do their part."

Francis had started the evening with the lead, and the two candidates virtually were tied as more counties reported results.

Although Rogers reached about a 1,000-vote lead at one point, late results from precincts in Hood County gave the campaign pause, wondering if the lead would hold up.

The Twitter account for the Gov. Greg Abbott campaign posted a congratulations to Rogers for winning the election, calling Rogers "a passionate conservative who will fight to defend the values that matter most to rural Texas."

Rogers carried the majority of votes cast in Brown, Coleman, Palo Pinto, Shackelford and Stephens counties. Francis led in Callahan, Eastland and Hood counties.

Cities in HD 60 include Albany, Breckenridge, Brownwood, Clyde, Coleman, Eastland, Granbury and Mineral Wells.

Francis congratulates Rogers

In a Facebook post, Francis said that the runoff "did not go the way we hoped," congratulating Rogers for his victory.

"I pray that he will be filled with wisdom, discernment, and that he will be successful in delivering conservative legislation while in Austin," he said.  "I am proud of the race we ran, we fought hard and left it all on the field."

Francis thanked a lengthy set of "supporters, donors, prayer warriors and volunteers," also thanking "friends, church, and especially my family."

"Texas needs all of us to continue the fight for less government and more freedom," he wrote. "Our values are worth defending. You can count on me to continue the fight along side you.

"All praise, honor, and glory to Yahweh."

In the four-person Republican primary on March 3, Francis lead with 15,430 votes (45.9%), with Rogers 714 votes behind at 14,716 (43.8%).

The other two opponents were Kellye Sorelle of Granbury (2,219 votes, or 6.6%) and Christopher Perricone of Mineral Wells (1,247 votes, or 3.7%). Both candidates endorsed Francis.
