{UAH} Two NRM CEC Members Test Positive for Covid-19

Two senior officials, believed to be members of the ruling party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) have tested positive for Covid-19.

News about the status of the party officials was broken by the secretary-general, Justine Kasule Lumumba through a post on her facebook page.

 "This morning, two of our key staff at the National Resistance Movement – NRM Party Secretariat tested positive for COVID-19 and have been admitted to the Hospital for proper care. We are working with the technical people and further guidance will be given in due course," Lumumba's facebook post reads.

While in the post she talks of key staff, sources within the secretariat's staff say, none of them is sick.

"They should be within CEC because they are the ones who were tested two days ago, the rest of us were tested earlier than that," a source said.

All party officials and the secretariat's staff were subjected to mandatory Covid-19 tests ahead of Monday's event at which President Yoweri Museveni was declared unopposed for the party's presidential flag and national chairman.

Entry into the party headquarters has since been restricted. This writer found scores of NRM supporters grumbling after guards manning the gate turned them away.

"The secretary-general has instructed that all non-secretariat staff should not be allowed in," a source said.

A meeting of the party's district registrars with Lumumba was also moved to another venue away from the party headquarters.
