{UAH} UGANDANS HAVE LET DOWN THE BIZONTOS, SAYS BESIGYE
By Mulengera Reporters
Big-name opposition activist Col Kizza Besigye has this Monday morning appeared on NBS TV's Morning Breeze program, a platform he used to eloquently pronounce himself on many things including the incarceration of Bizonto (comedy group) whose innovativeness to broaden and deepen frontiers of the struggle he commended. Besigye said "we need more such groups" to create more understanding of what has gone wrong in Museveni's Uganda. He said many leaders, like him, can deploy their oratory skills to highlight the excesses of Gen Museveni but majority of the ordinary people, to whom the change message must repeatedly be targeted and communicated, understand the Bizonto style of communication more.
Likening them to the likes of Dr. Stella Nyanzi, who he saluted for using unconventional methods "to effectively deliver a powerful message and discomfort the Junta," the eloquent opposition leader said he was only disappointed the public members hadn't been adequately pronounced in their support for the Bizontos. He demanded that Ugandans demonstrate more active and visible solidarity with the Bizonzo comedians who security operatives picked from their Bukoto work place (Radio Simba) in a very dramatic operation. "They have done excellently well in awakening the political consciousness of the people in their own way while communicating using art which more people understand and associate with yet many of us aren't doing enough to be in solidarity with them. Many people are just writing on Facebook saying 'this is wrong.' But we can and should do more. For instance, have we bothered to check on them and visit from wherever they are being incarcerated? We need to do more and in my case, I'm ready to support them with whatever I can give to keep them motivated. In fact we need more such groups."
Besigye said it's his wish to have more such activist groups emerge in all major towns of Uganda to deepen the political awakening of the Ugandan populace; asserting its through such "incremental actions that the Junta will eventually be overwhelmed to collapse." He said this being a complex struggle, there won't be one magic wand to overcome Gen Museveni whose removal he said will necessitate different groups struggling in their own way as long as the overall objective remains increasing scrutiny on the regime.
The indefatigable leader from Rwakabengo also gave his views on his neighbor and political ally Bobi Wine Kyagulanyi Sentamu's decision to evolve his People Power momentum into a political party saying it's a prudent step capable of creating clarity in those wishing to deal with the Kamwokya-based Movement as they will now be able to know with certainty who they are dealing with. However, Besigye clarified that becoming less ambiguous while growing into a more predictable political organization can as well be detrimental to the political intentions of Mr. Wine. "It's what we have been dealing with as FDC for all these years. The Junta will always be out to infiltrate and disorganize you once they can predictably know who you are as a political formation. For instance when you call for elections, the Junta can facilitate its own people to infiltrate the leadership structures and it's something we as FDC have been dealing with all the time," Besigye said suggesting Mr. Wine must deliberately invest time and resources towards neutralizing such moves to infiltrate his political movement by the Junta (as he repeatedly called it).
He also revealed he was yet to have audience with Mr. Wine to deepen his understanding of what has happened so far regarding the unveiling of NUP. "I haven't yet had ay interaction with Hon Robert Kyagulanyi or any of the fellow leaders he works with," he said adding he right now has very limited inside information that he would require to have a more appropriate discussion about Mr. Wine's new party.
On the Nabillah Nagayi issue, Besigye said the Kampala Woman MP has been a beneficiary of the FDC internal processes through which she has thrice been able to emerge as the party's flag bearer since 2006. "Is she saying she has been a beneficiary of lack of democracy in the party for all this time? She has been carrying our flag and going on to win in general elections except that this time round she came late as the leaders of the party have explained," Besigye said equally dismissing media portrayals that the likes of Angeline Osege's inability to carry the FDC flag into 2021 is indicative of a party in disarray or lack of democracy therein.
As to whether he will be running for presidency in 2021, the retired Colonel said those curious will be able to know between now and Thursday 6th September. He said it will be diversionary for anyone to perceive his standing or not as the major issue at a time when all Ugandans should ideally be focusing at increasing scrutiny towards Gen Museveni and the way he is running the country.
He also sarcastically saluted EC Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama for inadvertently conducting himself in ways that confirm the fact that what he leads isn't the independent EC as envisaged in the laws of Uganda. To him, the fact that the EC bosses must first go to State House to have audience with candidate Museveni for their budget to be operationalized is indicative of a Commission that is only independent in name. He also said that the fact that Gen Museveni, who is one of the intending candidates, can prompt or in any way cause the knifing of EC staffers (Rwakojo and others a story that was broken by Mulengera News https://mulengeranews.com/end-of-an-era-as-m7-fires-ecs-rwakojo-replacing-him-with-rukungiri-richard-kamugisha/) in the middle of the campaigning period is all proof that the electoral process has already been compromised in the incumbent's favor. Actually Besigye suggested that if indeed Rwakojo & Co committed any financial impropriety (as Daily Monitor has eloquently been reporting), they should have the opportunity to defend themselves through a transparent court trial as opposed to being let off the hook simply because Gen Museveni wants to manifest his magnanimity.--
