{UAH} Bobi Wine’s Lies Are Killing The Music Industry Which Made Him
By Disan Ntale
In order for Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine to get a constituency, for his misguided political ambitions, he has decided to play age card (Youths) and decided to move around rallying youths to his cause and telling them how the current government has not done anything to empower them as youths and therefore the reason they should support him to unseat the non-responsive, repressive and dictatorial regime that has denied them an opportunity to be better. And as a result, some youth in the music industry have bought his lie; he forgets that he is killing the same industry that made him and empowers many youths in the country.
It is not a secret that the youth are a critical force in the development of any society. Programs that are aimed at empowering the youth to take charge of their destiny and become the forces of social change have been initiated by this government. Youths need to be engaged in activities that help them gain self-esteem, believe in themselves, gain analytical and decision-making skills, and general life skills.
The youths should be raised to become socially responsible citizens. Besides providing youth with material and technical support, they must be encouraged to engage in social projects and activities that will promote the good of the community. Through this work, they become aware of the needs of the people in communities around them. It is an opportunity to learn and share talents and gifts with those who are underprivileged, especially the elderly, single mothers, widows, child-headed families, and the sick. This is critical to raising responsible children and building a strong nation.
Thus, using the youths as voting robots so that politicians achieve their self-interest not only disempowers them but deprives them of the most needed essential element of life, sustainable life skills that they needed like the wetland needs rains, and all must be on to help them look at opportunities around them and harness them and better their lives.
We have already seen that the only beneficiary of that cause will be Bobi Wine and his family and by accident close friends since he is not on record to have helped anyone who has been part of his Firebase crew to also rise to his level or even close, he just uses them for his enrichment.
He is moving around accusing the current regime of being dictatorial, brutal and undemocratic, non-responsive to the citizens' needs, and neglecting youths in the country. He is an artist who has made himself a name in a country that is led by the same leader he accuses, he has amassed a lot of wealth and is now an MP paid by the money from the consolidated fund. All this he has achieved because the government provided him with an enabling environment but he thinks youths from ghettos where he claims to have grown up fro cannot use the same conducive environment to achieve their goals.
He is an MP and many artists like Judith, Kato, Sematimba etc are all MPs in a government he says doesn't provide space for others. We are also likely to see many artists and comedians in the 11th parliament and other elective positions at various leadership levels.
The entertainment industry is booming and employing both youths and old, in fact, no musician or entertainer before NRM came to power had made money and built mansions like it is the norm today. Almost everyone in the entertainment industry now has a mansion in his name, has build rentals and established other businesses and their status has improved and they are no longer a laughing stock.
Gone are the days when parents could beat up or disown their children simply because they had expressed a desire to be musicians or comedians, so it is a very big lie when Bobi tells youths that they have been disempowered under this government, yet everyone in the industry is making lots of money and becoming wealthy. This is the same industry Bobi Wine is killing with his misguided self-interest and definitely serving interests of his foreign funders whose motives are well known.
He has recently drawn a red line in the sand, between those supporting him, and those not in his support that he has tagged enemies of the country, to him if you are not in his camp then you are an enemy, and his group is demonizing everyone who doesn't subscribe to his myopia.
Initially, the entertainment industry was one block and no one minded about any others political affiliation, which is a right by the way, and fans belonged all regardless and non actually talked politics, they were all for music nothing else, this has since changed and now you are careful when you are on stage because you don't know which side stones and bottles will be thrown from by fans who may see you as anti-people power.
We are not sure whether in the future, one will be attending music and comedy shows after showing his political party card, a once peaceful industry has been turned political and the upcoming artists are the one at loss. It should be known that he has made enough money from music, parliament, and LGBTQ funders to care about the industry that nurtured him and many before.
Therefore those that love the entertainment industry MUST wake up to save their trade before it is too late; otherwise, I predict a lot of changes in the industry post-2021 elections.
