{UAH} DEMOLITION OF ST.PETER'S C.O.U NDEEBA
By Hilz Byakwaga
People are all infuriated by the repugnant act of the demolition of a house of prayer that has been in existence for over 40 years. Personally, I am speechless that someone in their right mind can think of having a stand-off with God. But this is Uganda, and we Ugandans are fond of doing despicable things!
The biggest problem is not about the punishment these people that demolished the church will get from government but the confidence behind doing what they did. And that makes me laugh at all this circus being conducted by some people in positions of authority, just to make the public imagine that someone cares about them!
The hurtful truth is that, by the time the order to demolish the church was given, all the people involved had weighed the consequences and how to get out of the whole mess...
1) They were going to use the covers of COVID-19 and the darkness of night since there would be fewer people, meaning less resistance
2) They knew that the public would be up in arms and everything would be in the news. They knew that the public would be very annoyed.
3) They knew that arrests would be made, and threats of incarceration made. Actually, they expected even the president to angrily speak out. Nakalema did that on his behalf.
4) They knew that they would be paraded before a "gloating" public, and that people would be saying, "Its good they have arrested them all! They should rot in jail." Probably they even rehearsed how to act crestfallen!
5) They knew they would have some days in police custody, a few more in court and maybe ( they might not even reach there) a few more in Luzira.
6) They knew that a few days to weeks (depending on how quickly another scandal took over the news) after the incident, people would have forgotten and gone back to minding about what to eat and not wearing masks.
7) They knew that they would be released to go on with their lives, probably richer men from the payout the rich man made as compensation for all the drama mentioned above.
Now you can ask me why I said I am laughing at the whole circus! Well, like I said, it is a circus, all planned out and being acted out. If people are expecting the church to be restored, then they are dreaming. If they are expecting the rich man to be punished, then they are dreaming. If they expect the policemen and KCCA staff involved to rot in jail and become broke, then they are more than dreaming.
The only punishment we should expect them to get will be from God and not from our leaders or our legal system. As a Christian, I am taught not to wish such people any misfortune, but I know God acts swiftly and they wont see it coming.
