{UAH} Forum on Financial Planning at the upcoming UNAA Convention

Every now and then when we are in one place to share a meal, my family and I discuss the stock market and analyze various investment options.  In lieu of birthday and Christmas gifts, my wife and I give them money which they invest as they individually deem fit.  It is an interesting exercise to watch because their approaches are very different.  My oldest is like me and prefers caution and less risk.  My youngest, on the other hand, is attracted to the riskier stocks with higher return potentials.  So. our discussions can sometimes become quite animated. 

 

Now my youngest really thought the retail sector had tremendous upside promise.  So, here is how some of his stock picks have performed over the past 5 months.

 

Gap Inc.  -  $5.50 on April 2^nd, 2020  -  $17.54 on August 28^th, 2020 (up 218%)

Macy's  -  $4,45 on April 2^nd, 2020  -  $6.95 on August 28^th, 2020 (up 56%)

Nordstrom  -  $13.18 on April 2^nd, 2020  -  $15.68 on August 28^th, 2020 (up 16%)

 

The take away here is the stock prices of companies that sell high end products are going to take longer to recover that those of companies that sell lower cost products.  Macy's falls somewhere in the middle.

 

But by and large, he is happy with his picks this year.
