{UAH} Introducing your boyfriend in an African home.

Allan,

Sorry Allan, girls and boys must educate their partners about their cultures and how to treat in-laws.

It happened to me too. My mother wanted my mulokole girl friend to assist her prepare malwa stuff, the girl laughed at me and I told my mom that she was "saved,"and my family said never would such a " useless," girl be married to me! And it never worked but mainly because we disagreed over the time, she wanted us to get married after 10 years while I wanted to marry her the following year. But my family believed I listened to them, the only time I ever listened to them they thought.

Then after 40 or so years, I am abroad,  my children bring their friends: Chinese, Italian, Baganda Latinos, Nigerian, Acholi, Iteso etc, no problem but one day my daughter brings boys I could describe as thugs at best. As usual I welcomed all kids and youths of all colors and tribes. They were drinking. I gave just one request, for them not to shout as my kids and I slept.

Then they started shouting and shouting. Past midnight I called my daughter upstairs and advised her to caution her visitors or risk the embarrassment, they never listened.

I just got downstairs, very gently like a cat going for a rat and started throwing them against the walls like they were sponges, they ran out crying like they were facing a lion. That was it. Whoever came after that behaved better than the Popes, each controlled the other and once in a while I joined them to share light moments of fun.

One of those boys married my daughter, he knows how to behave at Etesot's home as a visitor, all that is needed is self-respect!
