{UAH} Let's add value to our Parliament!
By Rajab Kaaya Sema
I thank the Almighty Allah that I have had an opportunity to work in the two political institutions; KCCA and Parliament of Uganda POU.
In Parliament and KCCA it was largely interacting and working with politicians, some of whom didn't know me as having a serious political background because of my simple and humble character (Sirina lugezigezi). Some inexperienced leaders would even undermine us both from the ruling party NRM and Opposition.
Working with these two institutions as a staff revealed to me the high level of unseriousness when it comes to matters of leadership and good governance in Uganda. Some leaders we elect to represent us! to decide for us! are just there to simply warm the chairs, eat nice food and wait for allowances and salaries. It's not only M7 to blame for these deficiencies! Our voters too share the blame! They don't know how to place leaders where they belong.
Let me talk briefly about Hon. Ssemujju Nganda, he is not just a serious party spokesperson when it comes to addressing the media at the FDC head offices, he is one serious man who plans for each and every session in the house! Members of Parliament are not punished by coming late to their offices or to the house in session, Ssemujju is an excellent leader at time management. He is always in office every Monday by 7am to plan for the week. Just from opposition, If you compare Hon. Ssemujju Nganda and Hon. Ssewanya Allan, the two are a class a part. One beeps another one makes direct calls.
In both NRM and Opposition, there are " Honorable " members who have never attempted to speak in the house whether by accident or out of excitement! Though they intimidate the voters by cruising the V8s, VXs or Mpenkoni.
My humble plea to Ugandans of voting age, let's vote for people who can add value to our Parliament and local governments. Let's not vote people because they have a wide chest, big chicks or long legs! Let's vote for leaders who are knowledgeable and experienced.
