{UAH} Minister Magyezi reportedly quits Igara West MP race for Kabwegyere, Mbwatekamwa

Robert,

Thank you for the response. A minor correction, you missed one very important word, "BACK," when you stated that the next amendment will likely be to switch to parliamentary system. You should have stated to " Switch back" to as it was the case until 1985.

President Dr Obote became the president because UPC won more seats, Dr Semwogerere became the ader of Opposition because DP was second. Don't ask me how many seats Museveni had, that is for you to research, a good source to start with is Tony, I am not sure if he can give an objective answer to the why questions but you can try.

I wish my boy wins his bid so that he would be the one to propose or oppose that amendment depending on which party forms the majority.

Simon,

The news is true after all, it seems. He may have other reasons for calling it quits but if it's about his role in "age limit" removal, then he is a vision-less political shadow boy. He should have foreseen all the probable outcomes of his action.

However, i don't think that Igara West would be so anti-M7 to an extent of ejecting his key promoter in that fashion. He will still be retained as Minister, unless he is tired of everything.

You ask what other amendment may be pushed by the next Parliament. Well, one to switch to Parliamentary system where the party with majority MPs names the President. Take it from me!

Robert,

That would be the wisest decision he would have made in his lifetime, to save his face from the abuse from voters who were against his Constitution Amendment to remove Age Limit. He can give all sorts of reasons but for me I suspect fear of abuse and loss.

And he has no army to use, sorry for him.
I don't know who will propose another amendment, Tony? First we removed Term Limits, next we removed Age Limits, what limits need to be removed in the next parliament?

Local government minister Raphael Magyezi has pulled out of the Igara West constituency race, local media reports claimed on July 31.

Magyezi has represented Bushenyi District's Igara West since 2011 when he floored former minister and university professor Tarsis Bazana Kabwegyere.

Reports from Igara West quoted Magyezi as confiding in local civil society activist Lee Kakonge that he would not contest in the 2021 parliamentary race.

The Minister will concentrate on his ministerial role, local media quoted Kakonge as saying about Magyezi's candidature.

Magyezi is facing stiff competition from at least 12 candidates, including his 2016 toughest challenger Horace Muhabuzi, former MP Kabwegyere and Kashambya's Gaffa Mbwatekamwa.

Mbwatekamwa, Magyezi's relative, recently made peace with President Yoweri Museveni.

The former People Power Ankole coordinator and other ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) rebel MPs had opposed the party's position to vote to remove the age limit, in a controversial amendment Magyezi had proposed.
