{UAH} Election rigging: Bukedea residents vow never to vote again

George Emuron

BUKEDEA – Elections constitute an important element in liberal democracy. They are a viable means of ensuring the orderly process of leadership succession and change and an instrument of political authority and legitimation.

The failure of elections or their absence largely defines the predominance of political dictatorships and personalized rule in Africa. The current wave of democratic enthusiasm has evoked a process of competitive and multiparty elections.

A section of the electorate in Bukedea district, Eastern of Uganda, has vowed not to step their feet on the polling station following the recently concluded NRM Primary elections which they allege it was rigged.

Phoebe Agida, one of the aspirants for Bukedea district woman council representing Bukedea town council said that the results that were declared by the presiding officer were not matching with the results that her agents have.

Phoebe dramatically lost to Agnes Mugena in the race that had four contestants.

However as some of the election exercises are scheduled to take place tomorrow, friction is on high gear but the voters have been urged to remove the worry of vote rigging.

Sam Engole the LCIII aspirant says voters should not fail to participate in tomorrow's election since it's their right as citizens of Uganda to vote.

However, Engole appealed to his rivals to be calm if defeated from the battle rather than fuming that might amount to loss of lives that in politics there is win and loss.
