{UAH} HOW TO BE AN ELIAS LUKWAGO.

HOW TO BE AN ELIAS LUKWAGO.

(By Nsereko Bathromew)
"Mujooga!, mujooga!, basajja mwe mujooga!". This was a historic statement made by the Kampala Lord mayor; Ssalongo Elias Lukwaago. Today, I have taken it upon myself to trek in the Muloodi's shoes and see how heavy they can be.
Born in the central district of Kalungu 50 years ago, Mr.Lukwago's demeanour has persistently impressed most Kampala dwellers and Ugandans at large, especially those of us who believe in the power of inspiration.
After a few years of advocacy at Lukwaago and company advocates, council Elias Lukwago successfully entered parliament in 2005 , before taking Kampala by storm in 2011 as lord mayor, a position he is yet to relinquish.
Married to a lawyer, with six children , His worship Lukwago (of the Nkyima clan) has positioned himself as a formidable force in Uganda's political arena, challenges not withstanding ofcourse!

For example, having won the hotly contested 2011 election with 229,325 votes (62%), the " Muloodi" quickly stated that he had not defeated Peter Sematimba alone but had "won Mr.M7 and the entire state machinery " .
But his woes had simply started. Shortly after assuming office, he was censored and impeached by his own councillors who voted 23/3 against him for "incompetence and abuse of office" in 2013.

This censorship was later however overturned by justice Yassin Nyanzi , but in the nutshell, Mr.Lukwago had a tumultuous term of office characterised by bickering and suspicion.
But as fate would have it, the Ssalongo reinstated himself as the lord mayor in 2016 when he gave his competitors a chase for their money by winning 82% (176,637 votes) giving his close candidates a no look.
As if that was not enough, he "purged" his council of spoilers by making it almost opposition (26 councillors out of NRMs 9 ). This means that he had closed and sealed his critics sending them into oblivion. .
But that was not all. He went ahead to demand over 600m ealiers and compensation for the time he was not in office which court ruled in his favour!

What is always interesting about Lukwago's votes is that during the entire campaigns, he is always out of Kampala conversing for votes for DR.KIZZA besigye, his political godfather!
Like many of us, Mr.Lukwago has been nothing but a Besigyist. He has done everything possible to promote Dr.KB. but as fate may have it, this has become mission impossible.
As a lawyer, he is an intelligent man and when he sits in your case, consider it finished. What is interesting is how he balances his schedule of advocacy, lord mayor ship, and political activism.
Having officially joined Ugandas largest political party recently, he silenced all Critics who say KB has mentored no one for succession.
We who attempt to read letters when they are still in envelopes predict that he is positioning himself for 2026 after Bobi wine's 2021 political suicide.
In the nutshell, being an Elias LUKWAGO is plain simple. You just have to make sure that you are putting on expensive suites all the time, put on a plastic smile while in interviews and when the police attacks, you may need to scream; " wuwii!, wuwii, wuwiiii!"
I wish you a blessed weekend, OMULOODI WAALI.
