{UAH} HUMILIATION vs INCARCERATION

Let us be real. According to the way things are turning out, Mwesigwa Rukutana will soon  be a free man. The person alleged to have been shot by him, shook his head when asked whether he had been shot. This I saw in a video which I am sure has circulated everywhere by now. Ofcourse, the general feeling is that he has been paid. But who cares whether he has been paid or not? What is money for? Next we shall probably see the man apologising to Rukutana for misleading the public!

Those who hoped to see the big man kept in jail will soon find out that the few charges that remain will not be enough to keep him incarcerated for long. But ofcourse, because the case has captured the attention of many, there is the need to play it out to the public as best as possible. This is to show that justice is being served. So, I wasnt surprised to see a masked Rukutana being led to the dock, then to a holding cell (where an unsmiling guard opened and locked the door...with a padlock), and later to a prisons bus that whisked him to Kakiika prison. Who ever thought that the big man would be led into a prisons bus? But who cares that it was empty? And who cares whether it may have taken a detour on the way?

The thing is, this whole case will be over and life will get back to normal..but not for the big man and his peacock gait. The real punishment is yet to begin for him, though it wont be in form of a jail term. It will be in form of the huge dent to the ego of an untouchable man. He will no longer convincingly paint the picture of a very powerful man. He will no longer walk around, casually brandishing assault rifles and intimidating people with them. He will no longer tell people to go and hang or to report him to God if they are bitter with him! I even think that the peacock gait will also change, that whole aura will fade. Even his bodyguards will no longer fearfully give him their guns!

But we should not get fooled by the humiliation, that the man will cease to be powerful. And I think he will become more careful while exercising this power. Discretion will be his middle name. And I pity any unlucky person who crosses his path and gets discreetly "disciplined". There is probably nothing as dangerous as an injured bull. I will stop here, lest I become one of those unlucky ones.
But one  person  having the last laugh is none other than Justice Catherine Bamugemereire. Must be feeding on kikalaayi everyday that goes by, celebrating.
