{UAH} LORD ANDREW BENEDICTO ADIMOLA OF LACORSHIRE: THE FATHER OF UGANDA's INDEPENDENCE
Today, I present to you a man that ushered Uganda into independence but was very much underated in Ugandan politics. From very humble beginnings in a Catholic family, Lord Andrew conquered the World through hardwork and dedication to serve his Country running into trouble many times for his deligency. Here is his impressive success profile:
Lived 1924-2012
1935 Junior Elementary Vernacular school
1936-1939 Elementary Vernacular School
1939-1941 Junior Secondary School at Sacred Heart Seminary Lacor and later St. Aloysius College Nyapea due to war in Acholiland
1942-1945 Primary Teacher Training at St. Joseph's College
1946-48 Teacher at Ngetta Fatima College Lango
1949-1950 Teacher at St. Aloysius College Nyapea
1951-1953 Bachelor's Degree in Education (Geography/History) major from Markerere College
1954 Teacher at St. Joseph's Junior Secondary School
1956-1958 Education Officer West Nile and Madi
1958-61 Education Officer Lango
1961-1964 Governor Agent of Uganda becoming First Black Diplomat based in London when he opened the Uganda Office at Trafalgar Square.
1965 Foriegn Affairs Permanent Secretary
1966-1968 Permanent Secretary for Animals, Industries, Games and Fisheries
1968-1970 Ministry of Culture and Community Development
1971 Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education before Idi Amin took over
1971-1974 Retained stewardship of Ministry of Education but fled to exile in Kenya where he worked to oversee refugees from Uganda, Somali and Sudan under Mwai Kibaki his OB.
1979 After plotting downfall of Idi Amin and backing Obote II regime, he became Minister for Construction and Rehabilitation and later head of Uganda Cement Corporation after the fall of Idi Amin
1980-1985 Successful Farmer but lost everything in War to looting by NRA, yet to be compensated.
1985 Plotted downfall of Obote II Regime
1992 Imprisoned by Museveni Regime but won the case
1994 Constituent Assembly Member of Gulu Municipality (Beat Mao to the seat)
1995 One of the framers of Uganda Constitution
1996-2012 Private Citizen, retired from public and involved in business but remained strong Democratic Party Member.
Greatest Achievements:
Besides everything else highlighted the greatest thing Lord Andrew did was to recieve documents and instruments of power of Uganda's independence after being airlifted from Lira to Kampala in 1961 and then later proceeding to London and opening Uganda's diplomatic office at Trafalgar Square as Governor Agent.
He then prepared organisation of Independence delegates for Uganda Constitutional Conference in London in 1962 liaising between House of Commons and Lords sitting in every debate concerning Uganda. Eventually independence was agreed and Lord Andrew was flown from London to Uganda to deliver the instruments of power and flown back to London on the same day.
He is also responsible for establishing the highly successful government ranching schemes of Aswa, Ago, Acholi, Maruzi and Ankole following a successful cattle breeding programme.
2008 Awarded Pioneer Achiever and Trailblazer in Education and Sports by Pincer Group.
2011 Medal of Independence Veterans by Government of Uganda
He was a great politician, educator and father of Eight. I was lucky to be a student of Accounting of his daughter Hellen.
Lessons we learn from Lord Andrew
Lord Andrew was a very principaled, disciplined, humble and honest man. He gave and expected respect back, many are familiar that the front seat of all Lacor taxis were reserved for him at one point. He was hardworking and loved his community dearly hence had a very active community life even after retiring. His success profile portrays a lot of focus and determination. Hence Lord Andrew Benedicto Adimola the father of Ugandan Independence we remember you and draw inspiration from your life today. Thank you for your service.
