{UAH} KAMPALA IS THE ORIGINAL NAME
KAMPALA WAS NOT NAMED BY THE BRITISH
Mr. John Masaba of Uganda Wildlife Authority, Kampala was not named by the British.
According to today's New Vision as reported by Gerald Tenywa and Juliet Kasirye, you were quoted as saying that because, the British corrupted the word "Impala" and called it "Kampala." That is very wrong.
Kampala was the name of a hill or village we now call Old Kampala. Yes it is true it was due to the fact that it was full of impala animals which in Luganda was "Akasozi k'empala." Reference is Waggumbulizi by Dr. MB Nsimbi. That is where Capt. and later Lord Fredrick Lugard camped in December 1890. He did not name it Kampala, he found it so.
What KCCA should do is to amend its emblem and reinstate impala animal which was done away with by the then Executive Director Jennifer Musisi despite advice from the Lord Mayor, Al Haji Ssaalongo Erias Lukwago.
However, we should commend UWA for the noble job you are doing to market Uganda as a home of wildlife in order to protect environment and boost tourism.
