THE ROT IN PEOPLE WHO SHOULD COMMAND MUCH RESPECT

My NUP friends, I love you very much and I consider you comrades in the freedom struggle in Uganda, but you hurt me every time you platform a person who beat me up and falsely accused me of beating her up, because I had blown the whistle over her embezzlement of NGO funds. You hurt me so. I'll not tire of telling you this.
Caesar : how does this story go?
Bwesigye Mwesigire : Caesar, The story is that I was interning at an NGO when I was 22. Being a busybody, I took lead in implementing an activity of the NGO. I developed a concept around using theatre to popularise the concept of international justice among the youth, specifically school going children. I wrote a play, coordinated a theatre competition that brought together schools from all regions of the country. I wrote a report. My boss, meanwhile accounted for more than double the money we had spent on the activity. I had accounted for every coin we spent, being the frugal person I was brought up to be, we had spent what we had budgeted for. The accounts assistant shared the accountability that was submitted and I was shocked. I raised the matter of the inflated accountability with the board of the NGO and the donor. I was beaten for my big head and spent hours in custody at Police because the said NGO boss after thumping me had used her connections as a former magistrate to get me arrested. That is the story.
Karl-Marx W'mugeni : A woman who forged her husband's death certificate to steal his property, forcing her out of her job as a magistrate, said she rejected a UGX 5BN from the junta. Uganda is interesting.
Phil Wilmot : Bwesigye Mwesigire, it is unfortunate that the house of our comrades is plagued with centralized power that is born out of living so long under authoritarianism. I have had friends who have been extorted and exploited by insiders of NUP/People Power, FDC, UPC, etc. The same kinds of intimidation and extortion that the military dictatorship has normalized, only on a smaller scale. It is no wonder that people consider Museveni "the only one with a vision." Granted, his vision is the supremacy of neoliberal capital insulated my military dictatorship—in a word, modern fascism to suit his personal concentration of money and power—but he has a vision, whereas an alternative vision isn't brought forth by partisan structures or movements elsewhere in Uganda. So where there is lack of that, it seems we have conformity to the values of the dominant system. I am so brokenhearted for friends who are abused, friends who pay bribes to get a phone call to the right person, friends who are treated as less than. We cannot destroy the master's house with the master's tools.
Well, I would love to listen to the one in question before a conclusion!
