{UAH} THERE'S NOTHING ILLEGAL IN CHANGING NAMES

There is a law that regulates change of name. This law is known as Birth and Deaths Registration Act 1973. The Births and Deaths Registration Act CAP 309 was repealed by the Registration of Persons Act 2015.

Change of name varies from person to person depending on one's age. This means that the procedure for change of name for an adult is different from the one of the minor.

It from this that we dwell on the procedure that the adult follows;

1. Any person, being over the age of twenty-one years or a widower, widow, divorced person or a married person, who wishes to change his or her name shall cause to be published in the Gazette a notice in the prescribed form of his or her intention to do so.

2. Not less than seven days after the publication of the notice, the person intending to change his or her name may apply in the prescribed form to the registrar of the births and deaths registration district in which his or her birth is registered.

3. The registrar shall, upon being satisfied that the requirements of this section have been carried out and upon payment of the prescribed fee, amend the register accordingly and shall sign and date the amendment.

There's an option to go direct to court, obtain the deed poll where your names are changed & signed by the magistrate, without publishing the notice on any gazette. Then go a head and register that deed poll with register of docs at #URSB Gazette then proceed to National Identity Registration Authority NIRA Uganda the in charge for Registration of persons in Uganda
