{UAH} COMPLY OR BE RULED OUT: EC Warns Over Defiance, As Tumukunde Questions, “Whose Instructions Are We Supposed To Follow?”…

Former security minister and now independent presidential aspirant, Lt. Gen. (rtd) Henry Tumukunde has asked which body is curently responsible for directly running the 2021 general elections.

"We can't tell if we are running on police rules or the EC rules," Tumukunde revealed, complaining that the police is quite over including it's force in the electoral process meant to be totally supervised by the Independent Electoral Commission (EC)

He stated that when an election is in motion, you can't control the emotions.

"We have just been in NRM primaries, and there were no rules. How come the rules are in place now? The Bebe Cools are addressing rallies. Is COVID19 attached to me alone? These are terrible contradictions," Tumukunde argued.

He said, "The situation has changed in Western Uganda, the so-called political headquarter of President Museveni. This is what is causing panic. It has become a war theatre. It is not funny at all. I won't lose my cool."

He added that what is exciting however is that despite the challenges, the public is still responding, and he will have to keep pushing on given that he is already doing very well.

"What you see are the rough-edged police officers. All you see are soldiers in full combats, denying the public to even wave at you," Tumukunde said, adding that the most disappointing is that there is not EC on the ground.

EC's Paul Bukenya, while responding to Gen. Henry Tumukunde's allegations said that EC has handed over powers to conduct elections to security since they have a very great role to play. He however was quick to add that it is also guided, and part of the electoral process is to ensure that the process is lawful and safe for everybody.

He added that EC met yesterday with police, campaign agents, and candidates to forge a way forward to curb the excessive confrontations on the campaign trails.

"If a candidate doesn't comply with the SOPs, their campaigns will be suspended. It is a concern to us because we did not organize chaos but elections," EC's Paul Bukenya conclusively stated.
