An iconic address demands an iconic architectural statement, says its developer. The 95-storey SkyTower is expected to be completed by late 2024.

Plans have been released for what is being hailed as Canada’s tallest residential condominium tower – the 95-storey SkyTower at Pinnacle One Yonge.

Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the 840-suite condo will be part of a trio of buildings that will also include The Prestige, a 65-storey condominium tower currently under construction and a third tower expected to be 80-storeys. Details of that project have yet to be released.

Vancouver-based developer Pinnacle International has plans for a master-planned community in which the 2,220 condominium units will anchor a complex that is scheduled to also contain 1.5 million sq. ft. of office space, 160,000 sq. ft. of retail, a 250-room hotel, 50,000 sq. ft. community centre and a 2.5 acre public park.

At SkyTower, the first 12 storeys will house the hotel and the seventh floor will be the site of an assortment of amenities including a pool, yoga studio, lounge areas and outdoor walking track for residents of all three towers.

Pricing for North America’s 16th highest condo tower will start at $800,000 for a one-bedroom unit and rise as high as $5 million for a deluxe three-bedroom 2,300 sq. ft. unit.

There will also be one special unit for someone who can afford to pay the estimated $30 million price tag and earn the right to live atop the nation’s highest skyscraper.

According to Anson Kwok, Pinnacle’s vice president of sales and marketing, the full-floor penthouse with a 360-degree view of Lake Ontario and the downtown core will contain 7.600 sq. ft. of living space.

“An iconic address like One Yonge demands an iconic architectural statement,” he said. “We knew this location demanded something elegant and distinctive.

“Our approach to this phase and the other elements of this master-planned development, was predicated on a commitment to not just merely add yet another condo to the downtown core. Instead, we recognized the unique privilege provided by this site to forever reshape the Toronto skyline.”

Once built, SkyTower will have eight elevators in operation and because of the sheer height of the structure, balconies will only be available from the 78th floor down.

“It’s a tall building, close to the water,” said Kwok. “We don’t think it will be a comfortable place for someone to hang out on their balcony anyway. Regardless of where you are in the building there are a lot of opportunities for great views.”

Asked whether he anticipates any construction challenges because of the height of SkyTower and proximity to Lake Ontario, he said that “the building is not the first rendition and we have obviously worked closely with our consultant.

“It is tall and obviously a little more structurally complicated, but we have also put a lot of time into this development.” The completion date is expected to be late 2024.

The Prestige, meanwhile, will have a total of 496 condominium units, which will be divided into 297 one-bedroom units, 133 two-bedroom units, and 66 three-bedroom units.

The tower will feature 13,413 sq. ft. of indoor amenity space and 3,674 sq. ft. of outdoor amenity space including a rooftop terrace, fitness centre, meeting rooms, a children’s playroom and a party lounge with kitchen and private dining facilities.
