{UAH} Joseph Kabuleta on NTV this morning.

Ambassador Henry Mayega,  former Vice-Chairman of UPC's Presidential Policy Commission, debating with former Presidential Candidate, Joseph Kabuleta on NTV this morning.

Kabuleta noted that the Electoral Commission took 2 weeks to assemble and declare results publicly. He also said there was cooking of results at the Electoral Commission.  He revealed that when he went to the Electoral Commission to witness the tallying of results,  he got the impression that there are people at Electoral Commission whose work is to cook results to ensure that President Museveni stays in power and maintains dominance of the political  space as long as he can. It is a plot against Uganda,  he believes.  He concluded chis early submjzsion by saying that free and fair elections are impossible under the current political dispensation. He supported his assertion by demanding to know how and why 1600 new polling station surfaced, with stations reduced in Buganda but increased elsewhere?

Henry Mayega disagreed with all this.  He said President Museveni has always been ahead and will always be ahead as Opposition  continues  to claim that elections were or are rigged. He wondered if Kabuleta's votes were stolen.

Kabuleta reminded Mayega that even Museveni in 1980 claimed that his votes were stolen even when he had no chance of getting into Parliament. This, according to Kabuleta, wheeled Museveni into causing the death of 30000 Ugandans in a war of attrition in Luwero just because of greed for power. However,  although Kiiza Besigye who was in the bush with Museveni,  said that they killed 500,000 people,  Mayega said that is not true because Luwero Triangle did not have a population anywhere near 300,000. and he asked, "In any case, where did all those dead come from? Kabuleta responded by saying the war was a nationwide conflict and 300,000 is a conservative figure.

On Covid 19,  Kabuleta said that Museveni is using this disease to destroy our socioeconomy.  He said he used Covid 19 to disadvantage his opponents. " Why should President Museveni choose to keep children out of school, yet they are least likely to suffer from Covid 19, which is unlikely to claim more lives than Malaria and HIV/AIDS?" He noted that in many countries children are at school and no outrageous figures of children succumbing to Covid 19 are being reported. He thought it was a sinister strategy to create more ignorance and illiteracy among the young segment of our population.

Kabuleta was convinced President Museveni wants to build a sociopolitical situation whereby power remains in his family and clique like was the case Gabon. He castigated intellectuals and/or political elites who selfishly protect the Museveni regime and keep silent about the ills facing our country while claiming they are patriotic. However, Mayega did not agree with that.  He dismissed the recycled claim that Museveni is grooming his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba,  to continue his hegemony over Uganda. He said Kainerugaba has made it in the army on merit, not kinship.

Mayega was of the view that the military must always secure the elections if they are to be free and fare.  When the moderator of the debate reminded him that videos are available indicating that soldiers were involved in ballot staffing in favour of the President, Mayega regretted the practice and said the law will take course against such people some of whom were actually arrested.
