{UAH} Trumpism belongs in the trash can of history
Trumpism belongs in the trash can of history
Saturday, January 09, 2021What you need to know:
- Storming the US Capitol was an act of abomination; an insurrection against the legitimate political order.
- President Trump was an aberration right from the beginning.
The events that played out in the US this week as President Donald Trump's enraged supporters stormed the Congress to stop the certification of Joe Biden's electoral victory shocked the world and shattered the image of the country as the quintessence of democracy.
The protesters exhibited all that is bad and ugly about America. Although revolting, it was a subliminal exposition of the residual supremacist feelings of most Americans who voted for Trump. Despite the electoral loss, Trump and Trumpism hold sway over millions of Americans.
Storming the US Capitol was an act of abomination; an insurrection against the legitimate political order. It brought shame and indignity to the world's leading economy.
Outpouring of condemnation across the globe revealed the US has lost the high moral ground it has occupied; where, as the reigning unipolar superpower, it positioned itself as the bastion for civil liberties and political decency. Ravages of the Trump-troops will linger long after the man exits the stage.
