BEFORE DRONES, THERE WERE FAKE TAXI CONDUCTORS

In 2002, Bob Muhumuza Kabushenga was a student at LDC, he was young, energetic, passionate, full of dreams and loved Uganda!

At that time, we had just emerged from the 2001 elections and like all others, regime enforced disappearances were the order of the day. It was actually the most violent election organized and "won" by "IDI AMIN DADA" and his group.

In that election, Bob had worked with us on the Elect Besigye Task Force.

On this particular day, Bob had just processed his passport for which as a citizen, he had a right to have.

Then he went to Bugolobi to visit a friend and on his way back, walked to a taxi stage to pick a taxi towards town and thereafter go to Nakulabye where he resided.

On arrival at the stage a taxi that had what seemed like ordinary passengers pulled over and the fake conductor asked him "ogenda wa?". He said "Paaka mpya" and they opened for him the door. When he stepped into the taxi, he was quickly pulled by his neck, sat on and cold nozzle of a pistol placed on his ribs with instructions not to give his abductors headache or it would end badly.

They then drove him to CMI at Kitante and detained him for days!

How he got out is a story for another day.
