{UAH} Ugandan soldiers jailed for assaulting journalists

Folks;

The tragedy that has become Uganda can't be wished away by this perfunctory sentencing of seven soldiers. These soldiers were following orders. Period. The regime instructed them to block journalists from recording the event. Soldiers follow orders, so, these men did what they had been instructed to do.

The head of UPDF, Gen. Muhoozi has offered some apology. I don't buy it, for, it's unlikely that these soldiers went about slashing and pouncing on journalists without his knowledge or orders. It's also unlikely that the Inspector-General of Police, Okoth-Ochola, who happens to be my next village neighbor, was unaware of what their Military Police officers were up to.

If official Uganda is now apologetic about these universally condemned attacks on journalists, where was the government last month when the same militarized police were whipping and torturing Ugandans during the elections campaigns?

The government is faking condemnation here to hoodwink the international donor community that it respects human rights and press information. No one should buy that nonsense anymore.
