Are 'Animal Farm' political antics playing out in Uganda?

I have been carefully watching George Orwell's captivating magnum opus titled Animal Farm for quite some time.
Orwell explicitly brings to fore the argument that; as a revolution progresses, it chews its proponents one by one. What I find most interesting is the incredible similarity between the political theatrics in Animal Farm and the political antics characteristic of the current political status quo in Uganda. Check this interesting similarity:

1986 Commandments
All animals shall promote and protect animalism
 All animals are equal
 For God and My Country
No animal leader shall sleep on more than two Bisanja
All past animal leaders are stupid swines
 Power belongs to all animals
Greed is bad, Greed is wrong
No animal shall sacrifice another animal
No animals shall torture another animal
No animal shall kill another animal
All animals are equal in dignity
The Movement is a non-partisan no-party political dispensation
All animals shall have freedom of expression
All animals shall have freedom of opinion
No animal leader shall privatise animal properties and resources

2009 Commandments
All animals shall promote and protect piggism
All animals are equal but those with politically correct facial paraphernalia are more equal than others
For Satan and my family, relatives and our tummies
Animal leaders can sleep on more than two Bisanja
No animals shall call another animal a stupid swine
Power belongs to animals with the ability and capacity to manage a state
Greed is good, Greed is right, Greed works
No animal shall sacrifice a Pig or piglet
No animal shall torture other animals except in a 'safe house'
No animal shall overtly kill another animal
All animals are equal in dignity but some investors are more equal than millions of animals
The Movement was a non-partisan no-party political dispensation on the road to partisan political party metamorphosis
All animals shall have freedom of expression except on Bimeeza
All animals shall have freedom of opinion except some politicians
No animal leader shall publicly privatise animal properties and resources.

Govt is right to recover Blackberry phones from officials

It is odd, to say the least, that three years after Chogm, ministers, permanent secretaries and Members of Parliament who got Blackberry Phones, have been ordered to return them. Didn't the ministry and these officials know that this has been overdue?
In education, the students issued books must return them at the end of the term, semester or academic year. In security, before the marching orders, the person given a gun and ammunition, must return them and account for the ammunition issued.

Blackberry phones are expensive and not many people have them. The government is right to recover them or the money, lest it be accused of wasting resources. But, after recovery, will the Blackberries still be there?

We should do something about sugarcane trucks on Jinja Road

It is so sad that we lost MP Henry Balikoowa in a road accident. Unfortunately, we even know the causes of accidents on our roads. These accidents are not like a certain disease that requires scientific research.
I therefore wish to add to what the story; Poor roads causing accidents (Daily Monitor, December 2) said. It is not only the poor roads causing all these accidents! In the case of the road through Mabira Forest, the sugarcane trucks are also responsible for many accidents. In fact, merely seeing these trucks brings back sad memories to many drivers on the Jinja-Kampala highway. These trucks neither have bright lights nor reflectors. Moreover, when they break down, they are usually abandoned by the roadside.
In my view, the drivers of such trucks or the company that owns these trucks should also be blamed. But is it fair to arrest the poor drivers? It appears the truck owners' think they are untouchables or are above traffic rules and regulations?
Whatever the case, we should expect more accidents involving these trucks as we watch helplessly.

Varsity toilets
in a sorry state

I would like to express my grievance to Makerere University administration regarding the sorry state of some toilets at the university. I wish anyone would visit the toilets, especially the ones at the Faculty of IT in Block B. First of all, they do not have water to flush the toilets. Secondly, the toilets are never cleaned. Moreover, the tuition we pay is much higher than what is collected from public toilets yet public toilets are always clean. I am appealing to the responsible authorities to do something.
