{UAH} IF SOMEONE IS 'BAD-MOUTHING' MY RELIGION, CAN I SUE THEM?

IF SOMEONE IS 'BAD-MOUTHING' MY RELIGION, CAN I SUE THEM?
Ssenyomo had always disliked the village pastor who woke him up everyday with prayers. So when he had that the pastor had left this life to join his 'lord', he rejoiced and decided to take his revenge to ensure that no one would cause him similar misery. He went on radio, and in the street near the church and told all those who had come to mourn for their 'fallen' papa that they were headed to hell because they were using 'bicupuli' (false) teachings.

After doing this, Ssenyomo went home content that there would be no more noise in the mornings to come. The church members felt very hurt and offended, some said vengeance should not only be for their Lord and wanted to know if the law could assist them.

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?
The supreme law in Uganda, says that every person has the right to be part of their chosen Religious group. This means you can be a christian, Muslim, Hindu, Traditionalist, etc. Therefore for a person to stop you from doing this means they are violating your constitutional right.

Furthermore, the criminal law in Uganda, (Penal Code Act) also makes it a criminal offence for someone to say, write o make gestures about another person's religion with the intention of wounding the religious feeling of another person. Acts that wound religious feeling can be things such as placing a forbidden animal at a place of worship, or putting a banner with the words Fake and Satan on a church, but the list is endless.

So if you feel someone has done something like this, then it is possible to report the matter to police for action. Remember we all have a freedom of worship and this does not mean we interfere with other people's freedom of worship.
