IF THE VOTER REGISTER SHOWS I TICKED THE BALLOT PAPER, IS IT A CRIME IF I INSIST ON VOTING?

A few days to elections and Blazio Kizito is ready to choose his leaders but his efforts might be stopped, you know why? The new resident in his community has the same exact names!

Blazio (the original) wants to know if this will affect his right to vote for his LC, MP and President.

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? Under the election laws no one is allowed to vote twice. In fact, it is an offence. When a person shows up again to cast a vote, the polling officer is empowered to ask to see their finger mark. (This is what shows you already voted). You can be imprisoned for 6 months or pay a fine of UGX 400,000 or both!

SO WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU REALLY DIDN'T VOTE AND YOUR NAME WAS MARKED?

If you are like Kizito Blazio and somehow you have the same names as another individual, it is possible there will be other details to differentiate you. If this is the case, then 'both' Blazios will be allowed to vote since these details will vary.

However, if the details are the same, and it turns out that your name on the voter register shows that you voted but you really did not vote, you have the right to ask the polling officer for a ballot paper so that you can vote. For purposes of accountability, you will be required to sign a declaration form to indicate that you really did not vote.
