Objectively, how long would it take for the USA to take over Canada?

A pentagon study was done after the Quebec Crisis when Trudeau Sr. threatened to close off the St. Lawrence Seaway if the US Army crossed the border. It showed that it would take 24 - 48 hours to assume control of the country. The problem would show itself on day three when they attempt to garrison Canada. The estimate was that it would tie up 2 million troops both within Canada where policing a similar people would demoralize their troops and to protect strategic interests in the US from pissed off citizens or descendants of Canucks. Conclusion: impossible to invade and take over Canada.

Having grown up in Ottawa I can add a local joke which went "how long would it take the US marines to reach Parliament Hill if Canada elected a socialist government"? The border is a two hour drive away but the answer was that they were already there, being the guard at the US embassy opposite the Parliament Buildings.

Edit. I have been asked to give sources. LOL. The first time for the Pentagon study was in a piping get-together at RMC (our Royal Military College). The person who told me was a high ranking officer who had been assigned to Washington or somewhere and who had been told about the study by a US Army officer who had read it. The second time that I heard is was a from a master's student in military history who had also heard it. Since first quoting it on Quora I have had others that told me that they had heard it. Given that Pentagon studies are Top Secret I cannot list sources even if I could remember their names, can I? Besides, the Pentagon has war plans for everything, or so they say, so what is the question?

As for the Ottawa joke, we are talking high school locker room stuff. If a lawyer in the US can become a supreme court judge despite school chatter, why would identifying that source be relevant here, eh?
