TANZANIA 04/01/1980 INTERVIEW MILTON OBOTE FORMER PRESIDENT OF UGANDA
Question: what has been keeping you here in Tanzania?
Obote: "Mainly I thought so that this coalition government can emerge without my image... but the coalition is now disintegrating. Tanzanians have been asking the Ugandan government to allow me to go back home, but the government of Uganda for their own reasons do not want me to go home. I am thiniing seriously about making arrangements to go home. My return would be a symbolic sign for national reconciliation. I played perhaps the biggest part in the removal of Amin, and I want to show it to the people of Uganda that... I did it for the people of Uganda. (Presidency_) is not up to me. If they select me I'll run."
