{UAH} WHEN AN AFRICAN GOVERNMENT DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE WHEN, HOW & IF YOU'LL EVER GET VACCINATED.

Picture: Expatriates fled Africa at the beginning of the pandemic. They hurriedly boarded specially chartered flights and heartlessly abandoned millions of empoverished Africans whom for decades they had dramatically claimed to care and fight for. Now they are all returning to Africa from their home countries overseas which actually turned out to be the most infected and most devastated by the Corona virus pandemic. (Source unknown)

Meanwhile, Africans are being made to think that all our vaccination needs will be covered by Covax, the much touted global initiative supposedly aimed at ensuring equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. However the harsh reality is cause for concern.

Though China Sinovac and Pfizer have chipped in recently, Covax essentially provides only the British-made AstraZeneca vaccine that was developed by Oxford University and funded by the British Monarchial government, the very vaccine that has been temporarily suspended in eight European countries for suspectedly causing British monarchial blood clots.

Remember that AstraZeneca was at one time considered as the leading Corvid-19 vaccine research in the world, but was suddenly overtaken at the finish line while celebrating too early. Thus Russia's Sputnik unexpectedly became the world's first Corvid-19 vaccine.

Many did not then question if Britain policy makers, stuck in arms race-style politics from the cold war days, just panicked upon hearing about the Russian announcement of a completed vaccine, and then pushed Oxford University to release their AstraZeneca vaccine immediately, barely a week after Russia, for political reasons and possibly without properly completing AstraZeneca's research and development.

Only time might tell.

Secondly there is a big difference between what Covax is promising to achieve as a total world vaccination program, and what it is actually scheduled to provide around the world.

For example Uganda is set to receive only 3.5 million doses of the Astrazaneca vaccine under the first Covax scheme,

This is a country of 48 million people, therefore requiring an estimated 100 million doses if each person has to be injected twice as required for the AstraZeneca vaccine. Which means that the 3.5 million doses should only vaccinate 1.75 million Ugandans if theUgandan Ministry of Health sticks to the AstraZeneca vaccination rules.

97% of Ugandans will therefore not be vaccinated, and their government seems to have no clue how they ever will be.

I repeat, 46 million Ugandans out of a population of 48 million, have no prospects of ever being vaccinated, and in any case that figure doesn't change much when the fine print of the Covax program shyly admits that they are actually just targeting 20% of any country's population.

So what about African governments getting together with African entrepreneurs, African banks and African pharmaceutical industries to look into the alternative possibility of creating the industrial capacity and technical cooperation necessary to affordably produce the WHO-approved Chinese Sinovac and Russian Sputnik vaccines so as to save lives in Africa, by Africans themselves.
