U.N. puts dangerous Iranian regime on Women’s Rights Commission

TEHRAN, IRAN – CIRCA JUNE 2008: Unidentified veiled Iranian woman walks past revolutionary martyr mural painted on wall of former US Embassy circa June 2008.

If there is ever a moment to see the true hypocrisy of the United Nations and it’s failed mission on human rights all one needs to do is look at the decision made this past week to put the extremist cult like regime of Iran on its Women’s Rights Commission.

What makes this far worse, is that allegedly the United States, along with possibly other western nations, voted to include Iran, as well. It is impossible, however, to know for certain due to the secret vote that took place to put Iran on the commission.

Moreover, the United States under President Joe Biden’s administration, has remained eerily quiet on the matter and has not spoken out – nor did it protest the action, according to Voice of America. Many human right’s activists have expressed outrage over the decision.

The result of the secret ballot also has been met with silence from the U.S.

In Tuesday’s vote, 43 of the 54 nations in the U.N.’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) elected Iran to the Commission on the Status of Women for a four-year term beginning next year. The commission is the U.N.’s principal intergovernmental body dedicated to “the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.”

Iran received the smallest number of votes of the five nations elected to the body. Of the other four elected nations, China and Japan were already commission members while Lebanon and Pakistan will be new additions. Iran currently is not a member of the commission.

Iran’s poor record on women’s rights was under fire at the world body as recently as last month.

Voice of America

Masih Alinejad, an Iranian human rights activist, warned on Twitter of the horrors women are subjected to under the Iranian regime.

“Look at her face,” she tweeted, showing a photo of a young Iranian woman who was disfigured with acid by those accusing her of wearing her hijab (head covering) inappropriately. “This week the U.N. Elected those who three acid on her face for wearing ‘inappropriate hijab’ to its top Women’s Rights Commission. Women of my country Iran are disappointed at the U.N. Don’t legitimize a misogynist regime.”

This administration should be ashamed of itself for not standing up for human rights and dignity. But then again, the only thing this administration appears to be concerned with when it comes to Iran, is reinstating the failed Iranian nuclear deal established under President Obama and rescinded by President Trump. At least, that’s my opinion on the matter.
