How long will Trumpism survive in the Republican party? Who can say, but here is a cautionary tale …

THE LAST TRAIN TO CRAZYTOWN

On December 18, 2020 the Last Train to Crazytown arrived in the White House and immediately flew off the rails. Sidney Powell and three fellow conspiracy theorists barged in, demanded a meeting with Trump. White House senior adviser Eric Herschmann asked how the hell Snidley Wiplash was let in, but the meeting took place nonetheless. The other members of the Crackpot Kraken's entourage were Dr. Strangelove himself, Michael Flynn, the Mad Overstocker, Patrick Byrne, and Emily Newman aka Mad Auntie Em. For White House staffers, it would be yet another tsunami in "an unending sea of garbage churned up by the bottom feeders."

Powell insisted that Dominion Voting Systems had rigged its machines to "flip" Trump votes as part of an "international communist plot." She wanted to declare a national security emergency, she demanded top-secret security clearances for her cabal, and she wanted to seize Dominion's voting machines.

Herschmann countered Powell with: "All you do is promise, but never deliver." The usually mild-mannered Derek Lyons jeered: "You've brought 60 cases and you've lost every case you've had!" Powell's defense? "Every judge is corrupt," she insisted. "We can't rely on them." An incredulous Herschmann retorted, "Even the judges we appointed? Are you out of your fucking mind?"

Powell also claimed that Attorney General William Barr, the Department of Justice and the FBI were "corrupt." Brain Drain Byrne chimed in with, "There are guys with big guns and badges who can get these things." Herschmann asked, "What are you, three years old?"

The barrage of insanity went on for hours. The arguments became so heated that Colludy Rudy Giuliani — who had joined the debate by phone — urged everyone to calm down. One participant later opined, "When Rudy's the voice of reason, you know the meeting's not going well."

Powell threw Rudy under the bus, by saying he had no idea who had "rigged" the election. In her fantasy it was foreigners, in his it was Democrats. This trashing before his Lord and Master explains why Ghouliani distanced himself from the Crackpot Kraken after the nightmare meeting.

In the end the Kraken cracked and was not handed the severed head of American democracy on a silver platter. But it certainly wasn't for a lack of Herculean, demented effort.
