{UAH} Ban Non-Medical Use of Alcohol

Ban Non-Medical Use of Alcohol

I see H.E. The President and the National Covid19 Taskforce have been struggling with bars right from the start of the pandemic over one year ago. There's no need of further burdening our security forces with forcing bar owners to comply with SOPs. We know they will not comply. We have seen them operating for the last one year. Like the President said in his first covid19 address in March 2020, drunkards can't be trusted with simple things. Unfortunately they are no longer a danger to themselves, they are a danger to the entire nation. Many in the security forces own bars. They will not close them. Most bars disguised themselves as restaurants and during the day they operate fully. The solution is simple, as done by some countries, suspended alcohol sale and consumption for as long as we can control the virus. Personally, I would not mind if an indefinite ban of non-medical use of alcohol was instituted.

According to WHO, Uganda is the 4th most alcohol consuming country in Africa after Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and Namibia and 47th in the world!!!!

Alcohol ban will allow for the many millions of Ugandans to sober up as we fight the pandemic and ease pressure on the stretched national health system. I know about the jobs, taxes and the whole contribution to national development debate, but our health as a nation should now be priority.

How does the covid19 national taskforce expect anyone who drink alcohol to adhere to covid19 SOPs???? Ban mwenge (alcohol) oba tufa tufe. But I'm very sure we will survive. Please ignore the noise of drunkards, save the country.
