{UAH} WHY NRM’S HOLD ON POWER WILL THRIVE LONGER PAST MUSEVENI
Written by CHANGE OF GUARDS
There is a general narrative among desperate Ugandans that the Museveni regime's NRM party will not thrive beyond Museveni. Proponents of this school of thought argue that since Museveni runs his NRM as his private company, he is the party and the party is him. Against this background, they contend that his NRM will crumble upon his demise. To support their argument, they make comparison with some parties in other countries that have thrived beyond their founding fathers. In this regard, they have repeatedly been citing Tanzanian's CCM and South Africa's ANC, among others. One key factor they ignore is that being an ardent student of Tanzania's Nyerere, better than any other Ugandan politician, Museveni understands how CCM has thrived. Even in his most recent admission, he acknowledged spending time watching Tanzania's TV stations.
Other than his pervasive greed for political and economic power, Museveni has been focusing on continuing to rule Uganda much longer even after he will have left power and the world. For the last 36 years, he has been preoccupied with the scheme of putting in place a system that will ensure his legacy will continue to influence and dominate the political space long after he will have left the stage. This scheme is what is referred to as MUSEVENISM. Museveni the person will leave but Musevenism will thrive much longer. MUSEVENISM is weaved around the following pillars:
1. ECONOMIC CONTROL
Deliberate economic deprivation where the economy will be controlled by a small minority comprised of cadres, loyalists, powerful families and a few sellouts. This is the idea behind the institutionalized land grabbing, suppression of indigenous owned enterprises, destruction of quality education, nepotism etc.
2. RETARDATION OF POLITCAL CONSCIOUSNESS
Using a combination of the monstrous indoctrination and brainwashing, dubbed patriotism, and brutal repression, the political consciousness of Ugandans is dwindling to his advantage. His plan is to make citizens' perception of politics as a dangerously expensive venture except if towing the Musevenism line of thought. Gradually, citizens will simply sit back and watch the minority group dominate the political space.
3. FRIENDLY REGIONAL REGIMES
His role in influencing the establishment of friendly regimes in the region, through both direct political intervention and manipulative economic schemes, will guarantee the survival of Musevenism in Uganda long after he will have left.
4. MILITARISATION
Militarisation of every aspect of social, political and economic public endeavors, coupled by the creation of partisan security forces that are under the control of regime loyalists/party card holders and regime family cadres, will guarantee that the gun remains top in guaranteeing the future survival of Musevenism.
It is these four pillars that he wrapped in his trademark slogan of "DEMOCRACY, SOCIAL-ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION, PROSPERITY, NATIONALISM/PAN-AFRICANISM." It is in the same regard that his recent campaign slogans have been "STEADY PROGRESS" and "SECURING YOUR FUTURE."
Therefore, it's only divine intervention that can reverse the evil scheme. Otherwise, the status quo and Musevenism is here to stay longer after he will have left the political stage.
