{UAH} The irony of American democracy: A Black voter is facing more jail time than Trump did for trying to steal the election
by Dean Obeidallah
Consider these two cases: First, Hervis Rogers, a 62-year-old Black man, faces years in jail for voting in the Democratic primary, not knowing he was technically ineligible. On the other hand, there's former President Donald Trump, who sits comfortably in Florida despite having sparked an insurrection in January. "There is, clearly, a disparity between the scope of both crime and punishment here," Dean Obeidallah writes.
"As a lawyer, this literally makes no sense to me," Obeidallah writes. "As an American, it outrages me to see this glaring injustice since we all know that if Trump was Black or Muslim (or both!) he would already be, rightfully, charged with various crimes."
