{UAH} MITYANA NUP BOSSES DECLARE WAR ON TOWN CLERK SAYING HE IS TOO DIRTY FOR THE JOB
By Mulengera Reporters
Led by the Mityana Municipality Mayor Mukambwe Lukonge, majority Councilors have unanimously ganged up demanding the immediate ouster of their Town Clerk Benson Otim. The elected leaders, majority of them NUP, have petitioned the Local Government Ministry PS Benjamin Kumumanya, who supervises all TCs in Uganda, accusing Otim of a number of transgressions showing clear impropriety and moral unfitness to hold public office.
They want Kumumanya to crack the whip on both Otim and the clerk to council as part of the broader investigations into the circumstances under which the Mayor Lukonge's signature came to be forged to allegedly authenticate equally fake minutes to create an impression that the elected leaders had on 9th July held a council meeting and passed a resolution authorizing the spending of Shs100m by the Municipality to support anti-Covid19 operations to secure the area residents.
The elected leaders, who have vowed to storm the TC's office on Monday and forcefully drag out Otim out in case Kumumanya doesn't realize or appreciate the need to act urgently, assert that no such meeting ever took place and in any case, some of the leaders the forged minutes indicate to have attended the ghost meeting were away attending another meeting (with Minister Nabakooba) which discussed the Shs100,000 each of the financially vulnerable Mityana Municipality residents was expecting to come from the OPM/Robinah Nabanja via mobile money.
They have since tasked the Mayor, being the head of the political wing, to drive to police and formally register a complaint against the forgers so that they are each investigated regarding their complicity or involvement in the utterance of false documents and forgeries both of which are criminal offences punishable under the Panel Code Act. "Mityana is a model Municipality in Kabaka's Buganda Kingdom and as such, we must be exemplary and the PS MLOG must immediately take away some of these technocrats for propagating forgery because our town deserves better. If they don't act from Kampala by interdicting and taking away some of these people, we are going to hit the streets with our electors and make Mityana very hot for everyone we suspect to be involved in wrong doing," one of the NUP Councilors told Mulengera News on condition of anonymity.
Mulengera News also understands that officials from the MLOG in Kampala have since spoken to Lukonge, the NUP Mayor, seeking clarification from him regarding what exactly happened and that he gave information implicating a number of technocrats who he demanded must leave the Municipality if the broader/larger public interest is to be served.
