{UAH} THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES SENSE NOW
THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES SENSE NOW
By Peter Waiswa
The razzmatazz of the electioneering period has waned and everporated. The fat egos, the naive ambitions and pregnant but infeasible dreams have been checked and frustrated. The chest thumping madness and bravado exuding silliness has been deflated. The, once, eroding waves have ebbed, giving the nation a deathly stillness and quietness. A bystander can be hoodwinked by the quietness in the country, to think that all our challenges as a nation (corruption, unemployment, extra judicial killings, nepotism, oppressive laws, skewed service delivery systems, a stupid economy, e.t.c) have been addressed. If someone flew out of Uganda sometime before the January elections and comes back now, they would think that the status quo of the pre-election era was indeed broken (by the chest thumpers) and that now we are on a new path. Alas no.
Uganda, it is time to take the bull by the horns. We were beguiled into thinking that the red "messiahs" would deliver us to the promised land. Yet now, the wave has ebbed, the players are flying in disarray, the camp dogged by a lot of inner fighting and the center not holding. The outfit is disintegrating as fast as it formed....may be even faster. It makes no sense anymore that we gave them our trust to lead us. (Bikwase Kyagulanyi.) There is no leadership, which the red camp promised to render, for the opposition. This was a dead end
The other Ray of hope for us as we struggle to emancipate ourselves, would be with the leadership of the purple General of ANT. In the build up to the election, they traversed the whole nation in consultation with the electorate asking if or not they should break away from FDC and form another party. They said the whole nation was indeed behind them. The party was formed and the launch was with a lot of fanfare and grandeur. But it makes no sense that a party that was birthed with such a thunderous thud is nowhere to be seen. They took 13 fire-brand members of Parliament from FDC and none of them returned to parliament after election. It makes no sense. Another dead end.
I choose not to discuss the green camp. The leadership there blows hot in the day and cold in the evening. They are too questionable. They are neither, nor opposition. At least judging from we see and hear from both the grapevine and official information sources. A lot doesn't add up. A lot doesn't make sense.
Uganda, the only thing that makes sense now is that we should go back to the path we were treading before the confusion. Yes, we were moving slow. But we were moving. The momentum was steadfast and the regime was, insidiously, filling the pressure and yielding.
Dr. Kiiza Besigye and his team were leading us and navigating us through dangerous terrains. Removing a dictator is not easy. Like I say, always, it is not like composing a song in the bathroom by night and recording it in the morning. Removing a dictator takes tenacity, deliberate planning, resilience, discipline, humility, and the ability to count the blessings one by one.
I challenge us, as change seekers, to forget about the hot air promised and the time lost. Let's rally behind the leader that started building the opposition from grass and put it to the grace which has made the gluttons jump on the trail wanting to relegate him . It makes sense. Change is coming
