{UAH} UN DARFUR MISSION CLOSURE
For me personally, the closure of the UN-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) represents a bitter sweet moment. Having served as a volunteer in this very mission from the regional capital El Fasher, I am hopeful that closure means UNAMID succeeded in it's international peacekeeping mandate for the people of Darfur. It also demonstrates that Africa can organize an initial peacekeeping intervention by itself, however limited, when the international community is not decisively taking action on a major humanitarian crisis.
