{UAH} boycotting an election is political suicide.

Mugagga K. Evarist:

For the entire period after an election and before the next one (5yrs), political parties are forced to slumber by denying them an opportunity to organise and mobilize. In fact, the only opportunity is left for the election period, in which at least, the parties must remind the masses that "well we still exist and we need your support". So yes, boycotting an election is political suicide.

I am doing deep thinking on this. I did read an essay in "African Affairs: The Journal of the Royal African Society" about the importance of people participating in elections, even where the odds are against them and how this builds the culture of democracy. It's seen as part of a protracted struggle.
